De Gastvrije Stad

For the celebration of “50 jaar Zaanstad”, Stichting Monet in Zaandam organises the exhibition ‘De Gastvrije Stad’ from June to October 2024. For said exhibition, we are looking for artists who would like to contribute and have, just like Monet, fled their country.

“…Zaandam is particularly remarkable and there is enough to paint for a lifetime; I believe that we have found excellent accommodation. The Dutch made a very pleasant and hospitable impression”.

Exhibition

The artworks will be exhibited at different locations in the centre of Zaandam from June 2—the day Monet arrived in Zaandam in 1871—onwards.  This way, visitors can make a walk past all the exhibitions in the centre of Zaandam. From September 14, the artworks will be relocated to the beautiful Wormerveer after which they will return to Zaandam. These works of art will be listed in a catalogue, named ‘De Gastvrije Stad’, together with background information and a biography of each artist. On October 10, an auction will be held in the Bullekerk in Zaandam.
